Critical Endeavour is an educational and workshop programme for emerging dance and performance journalists. It is part of the European initiative Jardin d'Europe that was developed by its 10 network partners.
Critical Endeavour's aim is to enhance public discourse on dance and to promote exchange about best practices, ethics, and responsibilities in criticism within the respective countries and contexts. It offers a broad range of expert input, professional experience, debate and exchange with artists, peers, and various actors in the field to the young journalists.
Critical Endeavour 2012 took place in the frame of ImPulsTanz in Vienna and led by Critical Endeavour mentor Franz Anton Cramer (DE).
Critical Endeavour 2011 was held in the context of eXplore dance festival in Bucharest. 8 young dance journalists from 7 countries took part in this mentoring programme for emerging dance writers.
Critical Endeavour 2010 took place as part of iDans in Istanbul. Internationally acclaimed dance writers, curators and critics mentored the 10 participants: Eylül Akıncı (TR), Bükki Nóra Ildikó (HU), Iulia Popovici (RO), Julie Rodeyns (BE), Lisa Caroline Smith (UK), Theresa Steininger (AT), Josefine Wikström (SE), Maxime Fleuriot (FR), Martina Rösler (AT), and Dean Damjanovski (MK).
Critical Endeavour 2009 was held within the frames of the Working Title Festival in Brussels in cooperation with the Vlaams Theater Instituut. The project was led by Anna Tilroe and Pieter 't Jonck and had 8 participants.
