Helder Seabra
Helder Seabra, born in 1982, is a distinguished dancer, teacher, director, and choreographer from Portugal. He began his dance education at the Ginasiano Dance School in Portugal and continued his studies at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. For over a decade, Seabra was a pivotal member of the acclaimed dance companies Ultima Vez/Wim Vandekeybus and Eastman/Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, where he performed, assisted in choreography, and taught both locally and internationally.
In 2013, Seabra founded his own company, HelKa vzw, as a platform to integrate his extensive experience and to explore the full potential of the body and mind through collaborative artistic endeavors. His first major production with HelKa, "When The Birds Fly Low, The Wind Will Blow" (2014), was a significant success. Following this, he created "In Absentia" in 2015, a poignant piece about loss, performed by three dancers and two musicians. Both of these works premiered at the Warande, where he also created "Urbach," a fusion of urban dance and Bach, and presented "Lore" and "Hiatus."
Since 2018, Seabra has been commissioned to create productions for several prestigious companies, including Johannes Wieland in Kassel, Unusual Symptoms/Theater Bremen, and MAD in Russia. Concurrently, he continues to innovate and create new works with his company HelKa, establishing himself as a significant force in the contemporary dance world.
