ÉMEUTE

In French, ÉMEUTE etymologically derives from the verb émouvoir - from the Latin ex movere - meaning ‘to set in motion’. In the Middle Ages, an esmote referred to a collective emotion, a spontaneous popular uprising. Set within an installation of eggshells, ÉMEUTE reflects on themes of fragility, responsibility, transformation and the power of action. It is about coming together, rising up together, creating an imaginary crowd of two - ‘to riot as two’. On a bi-frontal stage, dancer Thi-Mai Nguyen and Marion Faure - DJ and live sound artist - powerfully evoke the forces of resistance, bringing the audience together around what drives our collective movements.
